Greenville's - Waste Transfer Station
In 1999, Schundler wants the homeowners in Greenville, who pay full taxes, see TAX ABATEMENTS, to accept NYC garbage! Councilman Bob Cavanaugh organized residents of Greenville and the luxury compound Port Liberte', who would be adjacent to the garbage transfer station at Greenville Yards. Hundreds attended the Planning Board and City Council meetings and shouted the proposal down. The proposed $6 million annual fees from Waste Management for the use of the site could never compensate for the millions lost through reduced tax ratables and payrolls. Tropicana, the fruit juice company, which has a major packaging and distribution center at Greenville Yards, employs hundreds of local residents and adamantly opposed the waste transfer station which would have been their next door neighbor. Alone, their payroll pumps $10 million into the local economy. Neither they nor the other commercial tenants at Greenville Yards had been consulted prior to the Planning Board meeting!
Typical Schundler tactic: never consult with the "stakeholders", provide no information or misrepresent it, then ram the process through the system before anyone realizes what's happening. By then it can be too late.
